Design Features of Double-Sided Mirrors

The double-sided mirror designed and selected by Barbora has the characteristics of practicality, beauty and durability. One side of the double-sided mirror is a flat mirror for reflective imaging. The other side is a concave mirror with a magnification of 10. The concave mirror is a perfect concave sphere and is inclined. There is a diamond inlaid at the bottom. The entire mirror body is made of SUS316L stainless steel. The surface is rhodium-plated with PVD technology.

Flat mirror design

The flat mirror is required to have a 100% perfect imaging function like a glass mirror after electroplating.

Concave magnifying glass

The inclined concave mirror is a perfect concave spherical surface, and has 10 times magnification imaging function.

Diamond studded

The 316L stainless steel mirror body adds a heavy texture to the double-sided mirror, and the embellishment of diamonds becomes the finishing touch.

Rhodium PVD plating

The mirror body is rhodium-plated with PVD technology. Rhodium alloys can be super scratch resistant. It can increase the service life of the lens.

Challenges in Manufacturing Process

Since the mirror body is a very specific and precise shape. We cannot use conventional processing technology for production. So Neway's metal injection molding process can show its talents. This process combines the injection precision of plastic injection molding while considering the precision molding of metals.

Metal Injection Molding Bodys

Metal injection molding is a process of injecting, degreasing and sintering metal powder. It can produce precision stainless steel blanks. After calculating the machining allowance for post-processing, Neway began to make the blank. We can also produce blanks by 3-axis CNC machining but the cost will be much higher than the cost of metal injection molding.

Design of Polishing Fixture

Due to the special shape of the double-sided mirror, the surface requirements are high. Neway needs to customize a special fixture while ensuring that the double-sided mirror will not move its position and not pinch the mirror body during the polishing process.

Polishing and Grinding

For the polishing of flat mirrors, Neway chooses to use CNC grinder for grinding and polishing. The required reflection standard can be achieved. The accuracy is as high as +/-0.00005mm. However, the concave spherical surface cannot be polished and ground with a CNC surface grinder. So Neway fixed the corresponding spherical polishing tools to polish the concave spherical surface to make it meet the reflection standard.

PVD rhodium plating

Commonly used electroless plating can ensure a bright mirror effect. But it cannot be reflected without distortion. So we use PVD rhodium plating. Through this process we can achieve 90% distortion-free.

Physical vapor deposition (Physical Vapor Deposition, PVD) technology refers to the use of physical methods under vacuum conditions to vaporize the surface of a material source (solid or liquid) into gaseous atoms or molecules, or partially ionize them into ions, and pass through a low-pressure gas (or plasma) ) process, the technology of depositing a thin film with a certain special function on the surface of the substrate, physical vapor deposition is one of the main surface treatment technologies.

Diamond studded

Since PVD rhodium plating requires a plating hanging point. We drilled a small M1 hole at the bottom for rack plating. To ensure the aesthetics of the product, we inlaid a diamond on the electroplating hanging point.
